The AIRB is leading the Actuarial Advisory Committee for pricing of Care-First Auto Insurance system. We are sharing information with all insurers as it is made available in order to ensure everyone has an opportunity to understand the process, and obtain most current information, and provide feedback.
As we work to model the pricing for Care-First, a key reference will be the Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) 2026 General Rate Application, it can be accessed here.
This Committee has received the table on Accident Benefit Comparison, which focuses on the differences between Alberta’s Care-First system and the MPI system. The differences will highlight areas where we need to make adjustments to the data and assumptions for the model, in addition to differences related to demographics, economics, frequency, severity, etc.
These Accident Benefit tables compare benefit levels under the current Alberta tort system, the MPI’s system, and the proposed Care-First system. We are seeking your input on the accuracy and completeness of the benefit tables displayed, your feedback will help us identify any missing or incorrect information. We request your input on any missing or incorrect information by September 19, 2025.
Additionally, we would appreciate identification of reliable economic and demographic data sources or references which could be used to adjust for differences between provinces as we consider what assumptions will need to be made when adjusting MPI data for use in Alberta’s Care-First system pricing.
